Level 4 NVQ Diploma in Construction Site Supervisor

Course Overview

The Level 4 NVQ Diploma in Construction Site Supervision is a nationally recognised qualification for Site Supervisors and Assistant Site Managers working across the construction industry.

This qualification develops the skills and knowledge you need to plan, organise, monitor, and control construction activities—ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards.

  • Be currently employed in a construction supervision role
  • Have sufficient site experience to demonstrate competence

To achieve the Level 4 NVQ Diploma, you must complete:


1. One of the Following Pathways:

  • Building and Civil Engineering
  • Highways Maintenance and Repair
  • Residential Development
  • Traditional and Heritage Building
  • Demolition
  • Tunnelling
  • Retrofit


2. All Mandatory Units:

  1. Developing and maintaining occupational working relationships
  2. Implementing, maintaining, and reviewing health, safety, welfare, wellbeing, and environmental systems
  3. Assessing and agreeing work methods
  4. Planning work activities and resources
  5. Coordinating work control measures
  6. Monitoring work progress against programmes
  7. Allocating and monitoring plant, equipment, or machinery
  8. Implementing communication systems
  9. Controlling work against agreed quality standards
  10. Contributing to cost and quantity control
  11. Maintaining material supplies
  12. Ensuring dimensional accuracy of work
  13. Coordinating site operations preparation
  14. Supervising temporary works (installation, maintenance, monitoring, and removal)


3. Optional Units

Optional units are chosen based on your job role and selected pathway. These will be discussed during your induction.


Once enrolled, you will be assigned a dedicated assessor who will guide you through the qualification.

The assessment process includes:

  1. Induction Visit – Overview of evidence requirements and qualification process
  2. On-Site Observation – Assessor observes your real work activities to confirm competence
  3. Assessment Methods:
    • Professional discussions
    • Knowledge-based written or verbal responses
    • Witness testimonies from colleagues or managers

This work-based approach means no classroom time. You complete the qualification while working on site.


If your employer is CITB-registered, they can claim up to £600 per learner towards this qualification under the CITB Short Qualifications Grant Scheme.
